Student Health & Wellbeing
At Norris Bank Primary School we have developed a range of policies and programs which aim to promote a healthy lifestyle for our students and the broader community. Many initiatives have been introduced to support student engagement and wellbeing, and to promote healthy relationships between all community members. Initiatives include:
- A whole school behaviour management plan.
- Healthy Canteen policy.
- Lunchtime activities for students including a Gardening Club, art/craft activities, Computer Kids, walking group, exercise to music class.
- Visit to the school by the Life Education mobile classroom.
- Information sessions for parents.
- “Go For Your Life” visits.
- Integrated inquiry units which support Health and Wellbeing.
- Development of a ‘walking track’.
- School Chaplain and Primary Welfare Officer.
- Special interest groups e.g. robotics club.
- Targeted programs e.g. anger management, bullying.
- Part of the ‘Better Buddies’ Program in partnership with the Alannah and Madeline Foundation.
- Weekly acknowledgements and awards at assembly.
- Student leadership training.
- Early intervention program for social skills training in partnership with the Austin Hospital’s CAMHS Unit.
- Implementation of the Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies (PATHS) social-emotional education program in all classrooms.
