Good afternoon everyone,
Welcome back! This week we celebrate and support Refugee Week. Our hearts and thoughts go out to all families and people who through no fault of their own, have had to flee their homes to protect their children and themselves from harm.
For more information, please go to:
As our students and teachers settle back into onsite learning, once again, we would like to thank parents and families for their co-operation and punctuality around school drop offs in the morning and pick ups in the afternoon. these are running very smoothly and the children are very settled.
Our students have embraced being back in the classroom and at school, both with excitement and focus. We are allowing students to settle before we begin our next round of one to one assessment in Reading Comprehension and Maths, which will begin in the start of Term 3.
This assessment using Fountas & Pinnell and Mathsonline is completed one on one outside of the classroom with their teacher in a quiet space. It is very thorough and gives every child a benchmark that demonstrates accurate comparisons with students across the state of Victoria and Australia, not just against other students here at Norris bank PS.
From this data, your child's progress is mapped onto a data wall (with their photo) in the teacher planning room. In here, our teachers work in teams to plan the learning at your child's point of need. In educational vocabulary this is called a child's ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development). Knowing this zone is vital, otherwise the learning may be too difficult or too easy for an individual child.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Due to the interruptions on Covid -19, we could not hold our Parent Teacher interviews in Term 1. please note, we will be holding these early in Term 3 after the Assessment has been completed. A date will be sent out closer to the time.
Student Semester 1 Reports
End of semester reports will be available next Thursday 25th June. Due to Covid-19 and remote learning DET has advised that no student will be graded against the 1 -5 scale for achievement and that the reports are to be a brief snapshot of literacy and numeracy. The reports next week will be available to read on COMPASS. Jodie Abernethy will be sending out instructions on how to access your child's report online. Using the Compass portal rather than paper copies is in line with our approach to a more sustainable future. if you have any problems downloading and reading the reports, please contact us and we can assist you.
Students Early Finish on Friday 26th June
A gentle reminder that all students finish at 2.30 pm next week, Friday the 26th June, for the start of the school holidays.
if your child has an appointment during school hours, you do not have to add them on Compass as a late arrival or early leaver. We will do that for you. You only add their absences if they are away for the day.
2021 Prep Tours
We have had many families asking for School Tours for 2021. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, I am limiting the tours to one family per day after school. if you know of any families who would like a tour of our school or are thinking of enrolling their child next year, can you please ask them to call me on 9467 2206 so I can book them a time.
NBPS School Calendar
We have now put our school calendar on the front page of our school website. We will keep this calendar updated for you on a regular basis.
