Years 5 and 6
Grade 5 and 6 teachers work together as a team at Norris Bank to prepare students for the next amazing stage of their lives, secondary college. Grade 6 students are getting rather excited about their future prospects as they consolidate their learning in preparation for year 7 in 2010.
Our Grade 5 students work together with the Grade 6 students to increase their knowledge of Literacy and Numeracy in a variety of engaging and relevant lessons. Our Integrated Studies topics allow students to widen their knowledge base by researching selected topics and using their ICT skills to produce colourful, individualised presentations. In Term 4 we will be investigating the Solar System and comparing Earth to the other 7 planets.
At this level we strongly encourage students to develop more independence and self-reliance as they head towards the high school years. Developing a stronger sense of resilience will assist the students to take on different situations in their stride.
All year 5/6 students will be taking part in transition activities in December. Year 5 students will experience a taste of secondary school by spending a day at Bundoora Secondary College on 7th December, taking part in fun activities. There is no cost associated with this day.
Graduating year 6 students will be visiting their new secondary schools for an Orientation Day on 7th December. On this day, students are to make their own way from home to the college. Students will be guided about their school and given information relevant to the rules and procedures of their college. Individual colleges have sent /will send appropriate information regarding this and other matters to parents of Year 6 students.
Year 6 Graduation preparations are in progress and this emotional and wonderful evening will be held on Friday 11th December at the Norris Bank Community Hall. Students will entertain parents and friends and receive a Certificate of Graduation.
